Bright and talented children are smart kids. They can do so much more if only they were given proper encouragement, and guidance. But most of the parents are too busy worrying about their academic skills and keeping them ahead in the class that they sometimes end up stifling their own child’s creative abilities.

Parents today realize the importance of doing well in the class, getting admission to a good college and getting a good degree and a professional job. As a result of being so focused on the end, they sometimes knowingly or unknowingly suppress their own children’s creative abilities.

However, as soon as a child (especially a gifted and talented child) reaches school age, he is strictly measured against the standardized norms and deviation is usually not encouraged. Creativity in writing, reading, science, nature, and other areas encourages children to not only listen to themselves, but also to think for themselves and trust their feelings. To meet their creative power, children need to be given freedom from a structured environment where they can express themselves not for a projected outcome, but for the thrill of inventing without any limitation of form or content.

It is possible for every child to be curious, intuitive, creative, and innovative – we as adults need to give them the right environment to develop these skills in them. Once they learn to live within the standard norms and bounds, it becomes difficult for them to open their mind and they fall right into the trap of always waiting for instructions that they can execute against. Right approach from parents and teachers can lay the foundation for a lifetime of creative fire within these children.
