Good Study Habits

back

S-T-U-D-Y.
Is that what I was born for?
I have these voices in my head
Telling me what to do…
And what not to.
Have I spent half my life
doing it the wrong way?
Who decides what is right and what isn’t
Who is anyone to tell me that this is right for me and
And that isn’t…

All these questions bothered me when I was in school. As I grew older and smarter (I think), I was able to chalk out a system that worked…for me.

Because we are all individuals, we need to take into account that a system might work for one person but not for someone else. With that in mind, the first step towards cultivating good study habits is to use a system that works for you. Perhaps you like to study only for an hour at a time before taking a break. Or maybe you are a late night person who can work only between 9 PM and midnight.

The second step is to have a regular schedule – that’s absolutely necessary to good studying.

Thirdly, remember it is not always possible to be successful the first time. So keep trying. Champions are not born – they are made by practice! Do not lose heart. Keep in mind that failure or setbacks should not extinguish the flame of passion burning within you to strive for what you are capable of.

Fourthly, do not get swayed by what other people say. Believe in yourself, and be focused. Self-motivation is the secret of success!

Step five is to plan ahead of time, using your deadlines to focus on what needs to get done.

Step six is to break your work into portions that you can manage to complete in a specific period of time. Do not aim for something that will end up making you frustrated. But don’t procrastinate!

The Question Is…

The question is
How come the teacher asks all the questions
When I’m the one who needs to know things…

The question is
Why am I supposed to have the answers
To all my parents’ questions when they can’t answer mine…

The question is
Why politicians learn not to answer questions
While I must learn how to answer them…

The question is
Why do scientists ask ten questions for every answer they get
But I have to answer seven out of ten to pass…

The question is
Why there are so many little questions in school
When Marie Curie spent her whole life on one big question…

The question is
Why do questions have to be answered fast in school
When philosophers take years to answer them…

The question is
Why must I find answers to already answered questions
When I have questions that have not yet been answered…

The question is
Why can’t I be in charge of the questions?
