Explain Cube and Cubiod

Cube

Definition: Cube is a solid object bounded by 6 equal square faces. It is also called Regular Hexahedron(having 6 regular faces). The below figure shows the representation of a simple cube.

Cube

Cube is a special kind of prism where measure of length, width and height are all equal.

A cube has 6 square faces, 12 edges, 8 corners, 12 face diagonals,4 space diagonals.

Note: The line at which 2 square faces join is called a edge. The point at which 3 edges meet is called a corner. The line joining two diagonally opposite vertices of a square face is called face diagonal. In a cube, the line joining two corners which are diagonally opposite in space of the cube is called space diagonal.

Cuboid

Cuboid is a solid object bounded by 6 quadrilateral faces. The figure below shows the representation of a cuboid.

Note: Quadrilateral is a 2 dimensional figure having 4 sides.

Cube And Cubiod

Cuboid has 6 quadrilateral faces, 8 corners (vertices), 12 edges and 4 space diagonals.

In the Above figure, a represents the width, b represents the depth and c represents the height.

If the length of a, b and c are all equal, it becomes a cube. So Cube is also a type of cuboid.

Here d represents the space diagonal of the cuboid.

Surface area of a cuboid:

Surface area of a cuboid = 2ab + 2bc + 2ac

Volume of a cuboid:

Volume of a cuboid = abc

Space diagonal of a cuboid:

Space diagonal of a cuboid is given by S = ?(a2 + b2 + c2)

Note: All the four space diagonals are equal. But the face diagonals depend on the length of the sides of the faces.
