Place value tells us the value of the digit depending where the digit is. Place value plays an important role in writing a number in standard notation and rounding to the nearest tens, hundreds, thousands,...

Any number of digits known their place values could be written in expanded notation. Expanded notation is written to show the place value of the digits involved in the number. Expanded notation is given as the sum of the digits and the digits being multiplied with their corresponding place value.

In some mathematical or scientific calculations, we could not give an exact answer. So, we give an approximate answer. To make that approximate answer one should know rounding to nearest tens, hundreds and thousands place.

Addition is a process of grouping little number of things to a larger collection of things. Addition of 4 digit numbers involves these steps.

1. Start from the ones; add the corresponding place value digits.

2. If it exceeds 9 then add the exceeding number to the number in the preceding place value digits and go on.

Subtraction is a mathematical operation where we take away some objects from the total collection and calculate the remaining objects. Always the smaller number is subtracted from the larger number. Regrouping takes place if any of the digits in the larger number is smaller than the digits involved in the smaller number.

Mixed number is a number with a whole number added to a fraction. In a fraction, if the numerator is greater than the denominator then it is called as an improper fraction. Improper fraction is converted to mixed fraction by dividing numerator with denominator and places their quotient as the whole number and the remainder /denominator as the fraction part.

We know basic 4 mathematical operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division). Add exponents to it. We can always form a valid mathematical expression using numbers and mathematical operations. If any of the calculations has to be performed first then it has to be enclosed in (). We could do calculations as we like as we have a proper rule to calculate it.

We are sometimes curious in finding the central value among the given set of data. This process is called as measures of central tendency. Mean, Median, Mode are the three basic measures of central tendency. Each has its own way of calculation.
