Definition of Place Value

The value of a digit based on its place in a numeral is called its Place Value.

Example : A three-digit number has three places - 720.




Place Value Chart

The Place Value Chart is a method of charting the digits in a number to make up the individual place values of the digits. The students can use the place value chart to work with numbers and their place values better. Here is an example of how a place value chart helps in the computation process:

place value for 5 - 500

place value for 8 - 80

place value for 1 - 1

Example 3: Find the value of 1000 + 1000 + 1000 =?

Solution: We need to find the value of 1000 + 1000 + 1000.

1000 + 1000 + 1000= 3000

The product of 1000 + 1000 + 1000 is 3000.
